Home Improvement starts with honest guidance
and ends with quality results.

Hetland Home Improvement has been serving Missoula, MT, since 2017. As a locally owned, independent business, my clients are also my neighbors. Backed by more than 15 years of hands-on construction experience, this business was established to provide my community with a highly skilled, dependable partner for all of their remodeling, cutom building and critical repair needs. My goal is simply to deliver exceptional, long-lasting craftsmanship that improves your home for years to come.

HHI handles a wide range of residential projects designed to add real, lasting value. From comprehensive kitchen, bathroom, and basement remodels to building sturdy custom decks, installing high-performance doors and windows, and tackling critical repairs, Hetland Home Improvement brings a practical, detail-oriented approach to every project.

What sets HHI’s work apart is a foundational understanding of how a structure should be built. Full certification in the International Residential Code (IRC) and International Building Code (IBC) means the expertise goes far beyond cosmetic updates. Whether we are opening up walls or starting from scratch, you are getting a builder who understands your home from the inside out.

Respecting your home

Even in the corners

Since 2017, the focus has been simple: deliver the kind of work I’d want in my own home. Fifteen years of experience is combined with an IRC-certified approach to ensure every space is left better than it was found. It’s about moving past the “good enough” standard to create something that looks great and feels comfortable, with the integrity to match (even in the corners you’ll likely never see).

Rather than building a massive corporate empire, the priority is building a reputation as Missoula’s most straightforward, reliable general contractor. My goal is to be the first person you call for honest advice and a finished result you’re actually excited to show off. The intent is for every home HHI works on to be a more enjoyable place for everyone who lives there—your kids, your pets, and your sanity included.

Meet Andrew
and Luna

Howdy, I’m Andrew Hetland, the owner and operator of Hetland Home Improvement here in Missoula along with my trusty sidekick, Luna.

I’ve been in building construction since my 18th birthday in 2011, when I started framing custom homes, bending nails and eating sawdust for $10 an hour—which, at the time, felt like I’d hit the lottery. Now I have over 15 years in the trades and since starting Hetland Home Improvement in 2017, I’ve focused on taking the guesswork out of remodels, custom builds and critical repairs for my neighbors and community.

I’ve spent time in the Ironworkers and Carpenters Union constructing some pretty big projects—bridges, refineries, and even climbing cell towers over 300 feet in the air. While there was a sense of pride in watching those massive structures take shape, I realized you don’t get much of a “thank you” from a train station or water treatment plant. I moved back into residential work because I prefer the personal side of the job—seeing a homeowner actually smile when a project is finished and knowing the work made their daily life a little easier.

I’m a veteran of the Montana Army National Guard, where I served in the Army Corps of Engineers as a 12N Horizontal Construction Engineer—which is really just a fancy way of saying I operated heavy equipment. I chose that path because it was the only phase of building construction I hadn’t gotten my hands on yet.

Along with my time as a wildland firefighter, volunteer structural firefighter/EMT, I guess you could say I’ve always gravitated toward work that requires a bit of grit and composure under pressure. To me, I’ve always just found an immense sense of pride in being called to help in times of need.

In 2019, I was lucky and honored to receive a scholarship from the Mike Rowe Works Foundation(Dirty Jobs and Deadliest Catch narrator) to study Construction Management, where I earned my certificates in International Residential Code and International Building Code. This means that while I’m a “boots on the ground” builder, I also have the technical background to ensure every remodel, custom build or critical repair is safe, honest, and built correctly.

Aside from those few seasons fighting fire, tools and sawdust are pretty much all I’ve ever known. Whether you’re looking to remodel your entire home, build something exciting or take care of that critical repair, I’m here to give you straightforward advice and craftsmanship you can trust. No fluff, no corporate sales pitches—just honest work I’d be happy to have in my own home.

Best Regards,

Andrew Hetland and Luna(my pup)
